  • Crashlands is a game with plenty of content but it follows a pattern of repetition which runs the risk of getting stale for some. I can see how this would make a fun mobile game as it’s a great time killer and it is enjoyable in its slow progression. But as a console game, I don’t think the slow progression works quite as well.

  • Crashlands is an open-world action survival RPG in which we explore vast terrains, fight enemies, gather resources, craft tools, build houses, and complete humorous quests.

  • When you stop to think about it, some elements of Crashlands are quite silly, but in an entertaining way. The ridiculously over-the-top villain with at best shaky motivation is definitely a laugh. It’s light-hearted and generally charming and easy to fall into when you need to escape the planet you’re stuck on.

  • Based on the developer name I went in assuming the writing would include top notch humor and I wasn’t disappointed. The dialogue between Flux and Juicebox is well written and a wonderful reward for completing tasks. As long as you don’t mind the slower pace and simplistic combat, Crashlands is a fun way to help a space trucker reach retirement.

  • The loop of crafting new gear, finding new locations, and crafting slightly new gear gets tiresome eventually, but the story and exploration is just enough to keep you going to see this quest to its end. A sequel is supposedly coming from Butterscotch Shenanigans in the near future, and for now I'm happy to revisit the 2016 game on the Switch, because it reminds me just how good an original take on the survival genre can be.

  • Crashlands is a laid-back take on the survival/builder genre that fits the Switch rather well. If you can stomach the tedious writing and some bland environments, you can do a lot worse for the price.

  • Crashlands swooped in under my radar and surprised me with its complex yet streamlined gameplay and laugh-out-loud humor. I tend to play it for longer stints than most portable games, and it has given me a reason to carry my iPad with me wherever I go.

  • Despite Crashlands’ flaws it does make for a fun game. The game’s simple controls and difficulty selection makes it accessible for gamers of all skill levels. Crashlands doesn’t force ads or in-game purchases down your throat, allowing you to focus on the game. For those looking for a unique and funny action RPG, Crashlands might just be what you need.

  • There’s a relaxed, lackadaisical pace to Crashlands. The story is too juvenile to feel intense, the questing is always a means to the end of your next important crafted object, and the combat isn’t particularly high stakes. The focus is on simplicity and fun. That’s not an indictment of the game, but rather a recommendation for the laid-back attitude and streamlined play that keeps Crashlands engaging for so long.

  • Crashlands is a game with a big heart. It has a unique personality, and is a ridiculous amount of jolly good fun.
