- Crash Team Rumble has a lot of good things going for it, but the severe lack of content and balancing issues drag the experience down. This game should have been either free to play or it should have come at an extremely low price. After about an hour, you’ll see most of what it has to offer, except for the few characters you may not have unlocked yet. With some additional content and a severe price reduction, this could be an amazing online game, but as it stands now, we find this one hard to recommend at its current asking price.
Ibuki · Jul 06, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - The good news is that Crash Team Rumble isn't a bad game, mechanically. The play mechanics are solid, characters are well defined, and matches can be quick, which does well to compensate for the differently paced progression on characters and the season pass. Despite this, the concept is already a difficult sell, and with the absence of offline modes, the title is solely dependent on a player base to ensure that there is actually a game to play.
Cody Medellin · Jul 05, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Toys For Bob set out to make a unique multiplayer experience with Crash Team Rumble that's supposed to be more of a strategic multiplayer platform brawler than a MOBA. And while they succeeded in doing so, CTR feels more like a multiplayer mode for a more feature-rich game rather than an entirely new game with a Crash Bandicoot title. With more characters and modes planned for the future, Crash Team Rumble may become a bash worth playing. Still, as it stands, it's a rumble that struggles to stay fun for long.
Jason Hon · Jul 03, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Crash Team Rumble impressed me more with every completed match. Those hoots and hollers from SGF make a lot of sense now, as it's one of those games where one late-game maneuver can spell victory for your team, and it can happen in an instant. Not being able to connect and play the fun game was frustrating – almost as much as connecting, playing one match, and then watching the game crash – but once I was in, I was having a blast.
Jason Fanelli · Jun 30, 2023 Reviewed on PS5, Series X|S, PS4, XB1Read full review - I have loved my time with Crash Team Rumble, the colorful graphics, the easy to grasp controls and I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the fantastic OST. Full of tons of bangers from Crash games of yesteryear, this game is a true joy. The real problem comes into play because it’s an online only game, which means once the audience is gone so is the game, and I will admit when I played just one week after launch the game was already filling lobbies with bots and that’s not a good sign.
Terrence Johnson · Jun 30, 2023 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Crash Team Rumble is not the game fans of the bandicoot asked for but is the game we got, and I can say it isn’t that bad. The game in its content is a bit shallow with one main game mode but I hope that will change in the future as it is a games as a service game. I look forward to lobbies full of friends in the future versus randoms but this a fun pick-up-and-play (for a bit) game. We shall see how it’s future holds up.
Corey Lyle · Jun 30, 2023 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Crash Team Rumble is a fun and unique 4v4 competitive game that is able to create something new and ludicrously fun out of the existing franchise mechanics. While I've played a ton and have not tired of the game, there is only one real mode, which might impact the game's longevity. Still, the game is deceptively deep and strategic, with teams needing to think and react quickly to be successful. Regardless of how long it's around, right now Crash Team Rumble is great for a blast of gaming fun for the whole family.
Eric Hauter · Jun 29, 2023 Reviewed on PS5, Series X|SRead full review - Crash Team Rumble demonstrates developer Toys For Bob's continued understanding of the Crash series by looking, sounding, and feeling like a Crash game even as the finer details are so new and unfamiliar for the team. The sports-like aspect of each match is delivered very well, offering more depth than initially meets the eye. A slew of strategies can result in victory, and cohesive teamplay is the fast track to success, making every victory feel earned and so much more rewarding. The game's matchmaking and metagame aspects leave a lot to be desired, but the hope is these can be fixed in time, so long as the buy-in doesn't scare away any potential for a thriving community.
Mark Delaney · Jun 28, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Crash Team Rumble features the solid foundations for a neat gameplay loop, as well as excellent controls and decent visuals… but this is something that should have been a multiplayer mode in a mainline game, not its own thing. I actually think that this should have been the better approach with this idea, as it is fun… for a few minutes at a time. The fact it’s a paid game with an additional payment towards a season pass just adds insult to injury.
Leo Faria · Jun 28, 2023 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Crash Team Rumble is a pick up and play multiplayer game that is shockingly fun. It gives players freedom while encouraging teamwork, with a variety of stages and characters. It has quirks and imbalances, but you’re never too far from the next match or unlockable.
