- Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled on the Switch is my favorite kart racer, even managing to outshine Mario Kart. The focus on tight and challenging gameplay that requires skill over luck was a nice change of pace. Add to that the great presentation and amount of content, and there's not much else that you could wish for. At this point, the only real complaints are the long loading screens, the microtransactions that Activision is rolling out, and the sometimes-broken multiplayer component. It's enough to make it anything but a perfect game, but it's a good title.
Andreas Salmen · Aug 13, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled is an awesome remake I would love to have played more of…if I were able to. I’m really hoping for an update or some word from Activision support so I can really get into the game and play some online matches.
Kaelyn Daugherty · Jul 25, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - It is hard not to appreciate how good this game looks. Beenox has done an amazing job bringing these already impressive-looking tracks into the new generation. Everything is so clean and colorful. The design is immaculate and the implementation of 4K and HDR really showcase just how good everything looks. The game also runs beautifully on the higher-end consoles, keeping a constant frame rate and really making this feel like a brand new game.
Ken McKown · Jul 16, 2019 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is a solid package that modernizes the original game in both good (gameplay) and bad (progression) ways. I’m happy that this game can live, but I want Crash Bandicoot to die.
Chris Compendio · Jul 10, 2019 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Future Grand Prix events are set to add characters from the Spyro the Dragon franchise, which is sure to be exciting for fans of PS1-era platformers. It’s safe to say that anyone who has nostalgia for Spyro or Crash will likely have a great time with Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, and while the difficulty will be polarizing, the game is stuffed with content, and since it’s available at a budget price, picking it up is a no-brainer.
Dalton Cooper · Jul 05, 2019 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled is another exemplary update for a classic game that desperately needed refreshing after remaining somewhat dormant for several console generations. True, there were other iterations, but this one has always remained the best out of the group. Activision and Beenox did well to make the tweaks they did and otherwise pack this new version of a classic chock-full of reasons to return to the game so many years later.
Brittany Vincent · Jul 05, 2019 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Ultimately, Crash Team Racing remains the "thinking man's" kart racer. It's less random, and places more emphasis on simply being good at its racing mechanics. You never feel cheated, you never feel like the game is working against you, and rarely does luck feel like a contributing factor, and I think that will appeal to a lot of people, but it does make the game get monotonous quicker than some other kart racers, all of which get pretty repetitive pretty quickly.
Tyler Fischer · Jul 04, 2019 Reviewed on PS4, XB1, SwitchRead full review - Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled doesn’t break any new ground, but the 20-year-old game at the heart of the package holds up well and Beenox has done a commendable job of updating it for the 21st century. Unfortunately, most of the extras that have been added, including Crash Nitro Kart tracks and the usual pile of unlockable cosmetics, aren’t terribly inspired, making Nitro-Fueled feel less essential than other recent Activision remakes. Hardcore CTR fans and those looking for a surprisingly-stiff challenge should give Nitro-Fueled a shot, but others might find it runs out of gas surprisingly quick.
Nathan Birch · Jul 03, 2019 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is a fast, frantic and rewarding kart racer that’s generously packed with a wealth of content. Its long load times and difficulty spikes may prove frustrating but it’s never enough to detract from what is otherwise a brilliant remaster and another strong addition to the Switch’s slowly growing lineup of racers.
Ryan Janes · Jul 02, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is a fun and complex kart racer. Boasting mechanics that are now genre standards, CTR's return shows just how relevant it still is. With additional features to fit into modern times like difficulty settings and graphics, this is a must-have for fans of the original, and for anyone who enjoys kart racing with friends.
