It’s only half of one, and what happened to that other half is a mystery of its own. All that was found was an empty shell and some bloodied remains. Not the way it deserved to go out.

It knows how to work within both the noir and the adventure game genres. The cast of animal characters is well-chosen, and Sonny makes for a great protagonist. Play the game in short sessions, soak in the atmosphere, and don’t be dissuaded by the more frustrating mini-games. There are a few moments when conversations feel out of sequence, depending on player choices. The puzzle elements rarely feel like they belong. Some locations feel too small. But these are limitations of the adventure game genre and Chicken Police: Into the HIVE! works hard to push past them and manages to give fans a good plot, great characters, and cool interrogation scenes.

Hoewel de game met vijf tot zes uur aan de korte kant is en je weinig kansen hebt om personages te verhoren is dit echt een aanrader. Zelfs als visual novels niet direct de games zijn die je normaal speelt is deze game de moeite waard. De geweldige muziek en sublieme voice acting trekken je zo mee het verhaal in waardoor je eigenlijk niet meer wil stoppen tot je de credits ziet rollen.

Visual novels don’t get much better than this.

The story of Into the Hive is fresh enough to stand on its own, but with endless ties back to the first game between characters and references, the experience of playing both weaves together a horrifically beautiful story of inequality, crime, and style that sticks with you long past the ending.
