  • The game definitely has nostalgic properties that will make older individuals feel like they are transported to their glory days. The controls are quite a bit more responsive, however. This game isn't bad, per say, it just doesn't have some of the technology and visuals that really could take it to the next level. One good aspect is that the game is quite different every time you play, so you won't be bored.

  • There are collectibles that line the path, and they create opportunity costs situations. There are also puzzle situations, as in trap doors that require a bit of a quick hand to get through. Lasers, mines and more… check. All in all, it’s a simple game with a satisfying degree of latent complexity that can be enjoyed across generations.

  • I think it's fair to say that Cavernaut surprised me. Judging by the screenshots, the game looks like it's simply a fun, modern take on Lunar Lander that's been tailor-made for mobile. I suppose it is that to a degree, but it's also surprisingly deep and stressful at times.

  • So, there’s a lot to take in while playing Cavernaut, but it consistently feels simple to learn, yet tricky to be great at. It all looks quite appealing too, if occasionally a bit dank (as you’d expect for a cave), capturing the old school feel quite well. Devoid of any in-app purchases, it retains its traditional feel quite well.

  • All in all, it's a game that does what it sets out to do, but not enough effort is put into keeping players entertained long-term.

  • As most things in Cavernaut are finite, it lacks the appeal of many of its competitors on the market that always throw out new content to keep users occupied. While fun, it lacks the longevity of other five-minute titans of the App Store, thanks to its visibly finite goals. It is a great experience, though, and anyone looking for a title to play for a couple of weeks during the downtimes of life will have an exciting blast.

About the game

Pilot your spaceship from the landing pad at the bottom of a mine shaft on a remote planet to the planet's surface. Pick up luminum crystals along the way that can be traded for upgrades, and if you’re lucky you’ll collect the parts of some alien artifact that are scattered throughout the caverns. But watch out for those mining lasers, and keep an eye on your fuel supply! Cavernaut is a cave flyer, inspired by classic titles like Lunar Lander or Thrust, reimagined for todays mobile devices. Using smooth tilt & touch controls, you'll have to make it through 5 levels with increasing difficulty before you reach the planet's surface.
