Warzone 2.0 is a positive update to Call of Duty’s battle royale mode, even with few drawbacks of its own. Its new map isn’t the most exciting outside of being the biggest ever brought to Warzone, but great additions like proximity chat and an updated ping system change things up and bring new life to the struggle for survival.

  • Warzone 2.0 is every bit the sequel you hoped it would be. While minor improvements could still be useful, Al Mazrah is arguably the best map to ever grace the Call of Duty battle royale experience. The tactical pacing is a welcome change, DMZ is a revelation for the extraction shooter casual space, and it’s all built on the best gunplay in first-person shooters. Infinity Ward has knocked it out of the park.

  • Ultimately, Warzone 2 is a massive step in the right direction, even if its full potential is still constrained by a myriad of technical issues. Al Mazrah is a more dangerous place than Verdansk or Caldera. In the long game, there are no safe choices, no playstyle that guarantees you’ll make it to the final circle. It's more intense than any other battle royale game out there now.

  • It's one of the most refined, satisfying, and premium battle royale games out there, making it best in class. In many ways, it's a better game than its predecessor thanks to its desire to keep every game fresh and varied with much needed quality of life changes.

  • The sequel tosses in enough new features and changes to make gameplay feel fresh and give a dramatic change to the game's pace to set Warzone 2 apart from the original, and these battle royale matches are still a blast, despite the setbacks to classic features.

  • Ultimately, while Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0’s battle royale still might not be my cup of tea, I’m pretty sure that the game has found a permanent home on my SSD thanks to its addictive DMZ mode.

The new additions are going to take time to settle in until we can pass real judgement but they’re already becoming normal and they don’t detract from the experience, rather offer up a new one. Bugs aside, we’re excited to play Warzone 2.0 more and we’re excited to drop back in every day, that’s something worth getting your hopes up about.

  • This is a sequel with no progression carried forward whatsoever, which means anyone who bought an Operator bundle, or a weapon blueprint, and so forth in the now seemingly legacy Warzone, has no access to it in this modern yet very, very similar follow-up. Sure, it's free to play, but that's hardly a substitute for this kind of development decision.
