- It is this general lack of memorable content, or downright terrible additions, that hold back Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 significantly. This could easily be the fourth best game in the series if it had the content and maps to match its gameplay. Even still, that gameplay is enough for me to have some fun and recommend this title to others. There is something so enticing about the Omnimovement system that I hope is in every non-jetpack title from now on. The incredible feel of BO6 is enough to keep me hooked for now until, hopefully, Treyarch gives us worthy content to enjoy.
Cody Perez · Nov 01, 2024 Reviewed on PC, PS5Read full review - Traditional multiplayer has never been better thanks to a few tweaks and additions here and there that elevate the action to a whole new level, while the all new Blackout mode does Battle Royale better than anyone else. And on top of that, Zombies continues to impress us with a plethora of mechanics to engage with and scenarios to complete. As a package, you’re going to struggle to find much better than Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 in the multiplayer market this year.
Liam Croft · Jun 30, 2021 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Call of Duty Black Ops 4 is a lot of fun and is packed full of content if you’re into multiplayer, zombies, and Battle Royal. If you played Call of Duty for its singleplayer, then you’re going to be sorely disappointed with the Operator HQ missions. It just isn’t a proper replacement for a story campaign. However, I’m fine with a game being multiplayer only if it is treated like an AAA title. Unfortunately the lack of dedicated servers, 20hz servers, delay of timely balance fixes and the like makes it a hard recommendation at full price. I’d wait for the updates to the servers and give Treyarch some time to balance a few things. This is definitely the most fun I have had in a Call of Duty in a long time and if you have been thinking about returning then this would be a great title to do so. Just give it a couple months.
Jordan Hawes · Oct 26, 2018 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Black Ops 4 brings a lot of changes to the series. Whether or not they're good changes is a personal choice. I found them mostly great changes. I like the promotion of teamwork. Making specialists that synergize with each other to get you to work as a team takes the game to another level altogether. While its not all praise, the game does have some downfalls.
JATOBI · Oct 23, 2018 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Finally, Blackout pushes Call of Duty in an entirely new direction, making use of aspects from both multiplayer and Zombies for a take on the battle royale genre that stands on its own. Sure, there isn't a traditional single-player campaign, but with the depth and breadth of what is there, Black Ops 4 doesn't need it.
Kallie Plagge · Oct 22, 2018 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 provides players a content triple threat that's hard to beat in today's market. Hundreds of hours in classic multiplayer modes won't make you a Zombies expert, and being able to massacre the undead won't get you any Blackout wins. This is a game that could truly suck thousands of hours from everyone who picks it up, even those who've been on the fence about the series for years.
John Schutt · Oct 20, 2018 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 lands with a quality combination featuring multiplayer, Zombies, and the new Blackout battle royale mode. It's a clean, polished package of multiplayer goodness all around. The lack of single-player campaign still hurts, but for some, it probably won't be missed.
Mike Williams · Oct 19, 2018 Reviewed on PC - Your enjoyment of Black Ops 4 will come down to two things: just how much you love Call of Duty and if you’re still firmly aboard the battle royale train. It’s still a Call of Duty game in its DNA and while it tries its best to open itself up to new players, it’s too faithful to long-term players to ever truly feel more than an iterative forward step over anything revolutionary or likely to entice jaded players back, despite its bandwagon jumping.
Jimmy Donnellan · Oct 19, 2018 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The three modes complement each other well. The Battle Royale mode is fantastic. Multiplayer feels great for veteran players. Zombies is neat if not a bit mundane before it ends. Still, there is a lot here, and for those wanting that online CoD experience will find plenty bang for their buck. I miss the campaign, but they have definitely made up for it for those interested in killing other players online.
Ken McKown · Oct 19, 2018 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - I definitely didn’t expect to consider the multiplayer as the best mode but here we are. Treyarch has knocked it out of the park and it makes me very excited for the upcoming eSports season. Call of Duty’s first attempt at battle royale isn’t bad either, but I know I’ll be going back to Fortnite for my regular battle royale fix before long.
