- Nothing about this experience is a must-have, if the truth is told - and so we come back to that first question. How much do you like Borderlands 2? Could you go in for some more of that, with minor changes and evolutions to keep it from being entirely samey? If the answer is yes, and you feel like grinding for loot all over again, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is for you. If not, perhaps hold fire for the next 'big' Borderlands title.
Alex Donaldson · Nov 03, 2014 Reviewed on PC, X360Read full review - Borderlands: The Pre Sequel plays very much like the previous entries in the series, with only minor additions being made to the formula. If you’re still up for more Borderlands, then you’ll find yourself right at home, but if you had your fill of the humour and gameplay after the last outing, then it may be best to hang up your holster and wait to see what the inevitable next-gen offering brings.
Alex Stinton · Nov 02, 2014 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - To say that Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is nothing more than Borderlands 2 on the moon would be a disservice to the hard work that the developers have put in, and the new features that are definitely noticable. It’s not better than that game, but it’s pretty much essential for anyone seeking out more Borderlands, or someone eager to learn more about the lore of the universe. The Pre-Sequel is a superb action RPG which anyone can jump into, with tons of guns and plenty of fun to be found.
Blair Inglis · Oct 27, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - In all, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel does feel more like a massive expansion pack than an entirely fresh experience, but the new playable characters are worth exploring and the tweaks to the formula have an impact across the entire breadth of the game. You won’t know what you ever did without huge double-jumps and butt-stomps.
Daniel Bloodworth · Oct 22, 2014 Reviewed on X360 - If you're a Borderlands fan who's looking to scratch that itch for loot-based four-player firefights, then this will serve your needs well until the next core installment in the franchise. Otherwise, you're better off waiting for the inevitable Game of the Year package. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel fails to reach the stars, but at least it maintains orbit.
Nick Tan · Oct 20, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Despite these issues, Borderlands The Pre-Sequel is an enjoyable game. It does exactly what a Borderlands game should: offer great shooting and fun looting. The introduction of moon-based combat has added some spice to general gameplay, while Aussie voice acting has also injecting some more character into what was already one of the more entertaining series on the market.
Bret Phipps · Oct 20, 2014 Reviewed on X360Read full review - The Pre-Sequel isn’t a bad game, but it certainly isn’t a game changer. For a Borderlands fan, The Pre-Sequel is really a no-brainer, but don’t expect anything massively new or innovative outside of the small tweaks. Instead, enjoy a bit (read: a lot) more Borderlands until Gearbox can show us what the series will become on the new generation of consoles.
Chandler Wood · Oct 20, 2014 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel’s problem isn’t that it’s not fun— it is. If you pick it up you’ll probably have a blast, and will overall look back on it fondly. Its problem is that it’s too content to repeat what previous games have done, for better or for worse. Great loot, three-dimensional combat, and fun player abilities all add up to making Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel really shine when it’s at its best.
Alex Langley · Oct 20, 2014 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel further refines the existing Borderlands formula, but it is far from a notable evolution of the experience. Shooting and looting is as fun as ever and characters feel varied, a definite step forward. However, uninspired mission design and a lacking narrative are all too constant and familiar issues.
Joshua Garibay · Oct 18, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Borderlands: The Pre-sequel feels like Borderlands. There’s a ton of loot, multiple quests to take on and some pretty good humor. While I know most people think this is more of an expansion than a new game, I would have to argue against that. It is more of the same, but that same is still very good and very enjoyable.
