- This is a fast and (in a cartoon style) gloriously violent game. It looks great and has numerous levels of complexity and depth making it a challenging yet ultimately very satisfying experience.
Harm0nica · Jul 21, 2021 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Boom! Boff! Pow! You’ll rarely sit still when fighting as Mr. Wolf in Bloodroots. In this fast-paced, action-packed indie game, the player rushes through levels, picking up weapons along the way and using them to fight through groups of bad guys. This could be fun, but it could also be quite exhausting after a while. The game balances out the action gameplay and storytelling breaks very well by using cutscenes. Avoiding the repetitiveness of the gameplay. It seems like something small but it makes a big impact.
JenRox · Mar 31, 2020 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Bloodroots is a charmingly written tale of revenge. Although its story lacks originality, it makes up for it in vast weapon variety and satisfying yet challenging gameplay that keeps you coming back for more.
Morgan Truder · Mar 13, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - If you are looking for a deep interactive narrative and a complex gameplay loop then I’d also advise you to pass on this. Like Ape Out or Redeemer, the core gameplay loop here is about cathartic fun and creative destruction. The environmental objects, changing challenges, and chaotic action mean that while there is only one button to attack, that rarely gets old.
Ed Orr · Mar 13, 2020 Reviewed onRead full review - Bloodroots is an aesthetically gorgeous, grindhouse inspired action game with a glorious combat system that’s unfortunately spoiled by some poorly designed platforming segments that just refuse to gel with the game’s core mechanics.
Brad Lang · Mar 05, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Bloodroots is a very simple, straightforward game at face value, but it’s also one that offers tons of replayability and features a high skill ceiling. If you’re a fan of games that are all about mastering gameplay mechanics in pursuit of that one, perfect run, you really can’t do better so far in 2020 than Bloodroots. It’s a game that I’m very much looking forward to returning to time and time again over the coming months.
Logan Moore · Mar 03, 2020 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - If you love Hotline Miami and are after an experience that’s similar but faster-paced, by all means give Bloodroots a try. You’ll probably like it. If you have access to a PS4 or PC, however, you should probably pick it up on one of those formats instead.
Richard Seagrave · Feb 28, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Bloodroots takes the frenetic ferocity of Hotline Miami and transforms it into an action puzzler that’s distinct enough to stand on its own. The title incorporates its enormous roster of weaponry effortlessly and is able to easily communicate each armament’s strengths throughout spontaneous skirmishes. It’s masterfully designed and bizarrely well written, meaning not even difficulty spikes and occasionally unfair camerawork can detract from its achievements.
Sammy Barker · Feb 27, 2020 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Maybe the fairest thing I can say about playing Bloodroots is that it's a bit like looking after a dog. Not a well-behaved one, mind—a right mongrel. It's daft, loud, and I know that under all that grime and matted fur is a complex beast I want to love. But damn, if it isn't an exhausting thing to keep around the house.
Natalie Clayton · Feb 27, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Dressed in a beautiful art design and coupled with a Tarantino-esque tale, Paper Cult elevates its murderous mayhem with an intriguing world. Aside from some slippery nuisances in certain level designs, and a somewhat predictable ending to the otherwise fun story, Paper Cult has crafted a bloody fun time.
