Critic Reviews

  • Beat Me! is a cheap, indie version of a Smash Bros-style game. Some other titles have tried to provide a decent alternative but I haven’t really come across a successful one yet. This is no exception to that rule unfortunately, as although the puppet characters are quite interestingly designed the game just isn’t that fun.

  • Beat Me! looks like a game with a lot of potential, and the multiplayer can be quite fun if you have friends to play with, be it online or offline. The latter only counts if you have the equipment needed to connect multiple controllers to your PC. We definitely think that the developers could have gotten a lot more out of the game by adding a single-player mode with some decent story content. Both Deathmatch and Wave Mode are great to play if you are able to connect with other players online or with friends locally, but the game doesn’t really offer much to do.

  • Beat Me on Xbox is an irrelevance. It’s okay in short bursts – and I mean short – and I imagine it would be fun with a group of drunken mates sat around the place, but as we all know, 2020 hasn’t been kind in that regard. That said, this is a game that is hamstrung by its own controls and combat system, and all the clever stages in the world aren’t enough to save it.
