  • Ultimately, Battlefield 4 is a wonderfully robust experience with a predictably mundane single player campaign that could have been one of the best games on the new current-gen consoles. But, the number of game breaking issues that can arise detracts from the simple ability to play the game in very fundamental ways, makes it difficult to recommend on any level, as some gamers will be able to deal with the issues, while others wont.

  • While it can't quite shake the feeling of being an iterative entry in the series rather than truly revolutionary, it does enough new things, and sees the return of enough fan favourites that it shouldn't go unnoticed. Next-gen visuals and 64-player online combat mean that if you don't want to sink money into a high-end PC, this is without a doubt the best way to play DICE's latest destructive hit.

  • It certainly feels as if it’s a great time to be a Battlefield player, especially with all of the advances made in the gameplay and all of its technical aspects. The only problem now is scrounging up the money needed to pay for Battlefield Premium to get access to all of the upcoming expansions. Sign up for this ride. You won’t regret it.

  • Battlefield 4 is a beautiful game and if you want something to show off that next-generation power to your family, this is up there with Killzone. It's not up to the PC's level, but it's close enough. The campaign is very impressive at times, but mostly it's the same boring cover shooting you've come to expect from AAA FPS games. Multiplayer is the game's big draw, but it doesn't stand on its own until the battles get real big on the larger levels. Using server filters should keep your multiplayer game exciting.

  • Moments of sheer amazement and a ton of content will keep you playing Battlefield 4's multiplayer, despite its familiarity and disappointing technical performance. Meanwhile, its campaign doesn't quite hit the target, but it still marks an improvement over its predecessor's. Nevertheless, it may be worth holding your position and waiting on PS4 reinforcements in order to get the full war-torn experience.

  • Battlefield 4, with its huge maps and high attention to detail is just screaming next generation. Playing on maps built for 64 players with a mere 24 seems like not only a disservice but lacking in punch too. Imagine maps filled to the brim with insanity rather than seeing a concentrated group in one small area of the map. With that in mind I’d say that if you plan on purchasing a next gen system it might be best to wait for that one.

  • As a package, this is the best Battlefield ever created. While the single-player is far from perfect, it bottles enough multiplayer lightning to garner my rather faint praise of ‘worth a quick play through’. As ever, though, it’s online where BF4 shines brightest. You may not appreciate just how brilliantly designed the maps, modes, and classes are until you experience those trademark moments.

  • It’ll take dozens of hours to master the weapons and combat scenarios that might pop up throughout Battlefield 4’s giant-sized maps. EA and DICE have a proven track record of ongoing support and have actually delivered their multiplayer component in great shape on launch day. With a campaign this good and plenty of graphically astounding action in single player and multiplayer, Battlefield 4 is complete shooter package.

  • It's probably for the best, then, that Battlefield 4 plays it safe. It's a game full of minor improvements to what remains one of the best multiplayer experiences available but, at this point, there's not much left to improve upon without taking some genuine risks for the sake of innovation. DICE is hitting diminishing returns and I'm curious to see where the series goes from here.

  • Gamers come to Battlefield to drive ATVs strapped with C4 into enemy tanks, barrage enemy troops with RPG-fire while parachuting from their buddy’s helicopter and more outrageous activities that Battlefield 4 delivers in spades. With improvements and additions to the tried and true formula, the lackluster single-player can’t hold the game down — the explosive multiplayer playground simply must be experienced.
