- Battlefield 2042 is disjointed and incomplete at launch, but it's impossible to deny it still has that magic spark that made past entries thrive. There aren't enough maps and one too many bugs and glitches get in the way of the fun.
Liam Croft · Mar 01, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Still, I wouldn’t say buying Battlefield 2042 is worth it for Portal Mode alone. Besides Hazard Zone and Portal Mode, the game just lacks enjoyable content. I can’t really recommend it for those looking for a long term game to enjoy.
Jarren Navarrete · Jan 21, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Battlefield 2042 is still very much the game we have come to know and love over the years, but this new release feels unpolished, unfinished, and just a huge drop in quality. If you’re purely in it for the gameplay and can overlook the sometimes floaty controls (especially for vehicles), then you’ll find a fairly decent Battlefield experience at the game’s core. If you were hoping for a real next-gen version of the franchise that would blow you out of the water, then we advise you to keep an eye on this one while it keeps getting patches and updates. The game can still be ‘fixed’, but we are quite sad that it was released in its current state.
Ibuki · Dec 18, 2021 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Ultimately, the game is rather enjoyable and has so much potential to be one of the best Battlefield games ever, as well as last for many years, but for now, it definitely won’t reach it, because it is rather shocking that this game has this number of problems, despite having a few years to develop this, as well as solely focusing on just multiplayer.
Junior Onunkwo · Dec 15, 2021 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - In essence, Battlefield 2042 is a solid game, but it’s the lack of polishing, the bugs, and the poor optimizations the ones that are turning it into such a big mess.
Bogdan Popa · Dec 05, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Battlefield 2042 provides a surprisingly complete multiplayer experience with a game mode for everybody. Although, with it’s countless number of bugs, mediocre map design and balance issues it also makes it a very difficult game to recommend especially at the current price. There is a fair amount of fun to be had with the game that might be improved in the next year or so.
Kyle Nicol · Dec 03, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Some of the key design changes that DICE has made in Battlefield 2042 don't feel for the better. Rather than improving on the core Battlefield experience that fans loved with Battlefield 3, 4, or Bad Company 2, 2042 is a bloated husk of its former self that is trying to recapture some semblance of its previous glory. As a fan that has been playing this series for well over a decade, Battlefield 2042 is a massive disappointment that I struggle to think is even worth saving.
Logan Moore · Dec 02, 2021 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - I love Battlefield 2042 for giving me that feeling again. I love it for giving me the nostalgia of flying my Spitfire across El Alamein and jumping out of the plane behind enemy lines. I love Battlefield 2042 for everything it gives me other than Battlefield 2042. The score above would probably have been higher if 2042 wasn't wasting space on my hard drive right now.
Thomas Mikkelsen · Dec 01, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Even the graphics for this newest version just felt “okay”. In my opinion, especially with all of the bugs, you should save your money on this one or wait until a heavily discounted sale. Maybe in a year or so they’ll iron out some of the issues that plagued its release and work on the “fun factor”, but it just isn’t there right now for this reviewer to feel comfortable recommending it to our readers or friends.
Emily Byrnes · Nov 30, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Its maps are impressive in scale, with weather effects that are a sight to behold. But they’re just too big, filled with vast open spaces that don’t do the game any favours. Mix in a variety of bugs and unfortunate design decisions, and you have the weakest Battlefield game in years.
