  • Ordained by a clear narrative, resolute characters, intriguing hauntings and an eventually favorable combat model, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is a morally infused spirit smasher set in a large world that needed a little exorcism.

  • Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is a super solid action-RPG that delivers an absorbing and emotional ghost story on top of combat that, well, it gets the job done. Antea and Red are a fantastic pair of leads, the writing and acting are on point and 17th New England is every bit as effective a setting as you would hope for a spooky tale of lovers torn apart. If you can make do with a world that's more linear than most modern efforts and combat that isn't going to give Geralt of Rivia any sleepless nights, you're in for a right treat.

  • Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is a compelling tale of love and loss brought to life by phenomenal writing and performances with solid combat to boot, and it serves as a reminder that good storytelling remains a crucial element of video games.

  • Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden’s memorable story and inspired investigative cases help carry it across its rougher patches.

  • No va a ser el juego del año, pero sí supone un gran exponente tanto de las aventuras RPG ligeras como de esos juegos que te comen el coco con sus decisiones. Puro Don't Nod con un extra de espectáculo.

  • Some gripping ghost stories justify gathering around Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden's campfire, but an open world full of routine skirmishes and mindless repetition might just scare you off again. As Dontnod's longest game yet, Banishers underlines the value of a tighter focus.

  • From folk horror to Scottish brogues, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden has a lot to offer, and I’m definitely going to dive back in to its deeply haunted map soon to try some of the alternative choices.

  • DONTNOD’s done a great job in making an immersive world that I rather enjoy exploring, though things look very samey — rocky, grassy, or cavey — at nearly all times. Framerate drops were plentiful on Xbox Series X, and it was very hard to ignore the seemingly endless gaps in walls that Red needed to shimmy through as Banishers was likely loading in new terrain in the background. Map design is largely quite clever, though you will spot areas that you just know will actually come into play in another ten minutes or so. If you run into a dead end that doesn’t need to be there, know that a prompt will likely pop up there as you progress.

  • Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden excels thanks to the memorable narrative and complex moral decisions. Alongside a brilliant world and some of the best voice acting around, it's easy to forgive the few shortcomings.

  • Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden heavily leans into the premise of challenging decisions with dramatic consequences, and manages to pull off an emotional and haunting love story where those choices do feel like they truly matter. Red and Antea feel like fully-fleshed out, interesting characters, forever linked to one another but struggling to let go. New Eden is full of communities plagued by supernatural creatures and dark secrets that make each of them intriguing to explore. An over-reliance on combat and a little too much hand-holding when it comes to solving cases is disappointing, but Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden can still be chalked up as yet another storytelling triumph for DON’T NOD. Life to the living. Death to the dead.
