The quality of the writing extends to the script, but like many games it’s witty, rather than roisterous. It’s filled with cheery references to modern social media, and every possible French term is punned. It rarely made me laugh, but it’s consistently pleasant company. Likewise, the story is engaging without being enthralling.

Aviary Attorney might look like nothing more than a silly riff on Ace Attorney, but thankfully, there's a lot more to it than that. The era-appropriate illustrations and music set the perfect atmosphere, while the short cases with multiple endings provide a great incentive to jump back in and shoot for happier resolutions. Aviary Attorney doesn't quite hit the heights of Capcom's own series, but it's still a fine way to kill an afternoon.

Aviary Attorney may not make any new fans in the legal investigation genre, but those who already like that sort of game should be well pleased with Sketchy Logic's debut. The characters are memorable, and I'm already waiting for a new set of adventures and to see if Sparrowson ever gets a sandwich named after him.

The core storyline is endearing enough, but it ties up too quickly as is so common of crowdfunded games. Of course, then there’s the issue of the product simply being unfinished, but not releasing as an Early Access title. Despite the holidays, Sketchy Logic put out one patch incredibly quickly, but it’s safe to say my experience playing Aviary Attorney simply didn’t set my heart aflutter. Instead, it might just have broken it.

Regardless, if there is a sequel, I will be the first in line. The world has… clucked my attention, so to speak. What, you didn’t think you would escape this review without being subjected to more terrible bird puns, did you? Wait, where are you going? Owl never let you leave until you do. Please, stop struggling. Just give in, it’ll be pheasanter that way. Look, I’ll even throw in the review score.
