- If you're looking for an MMO with voice chat, heavy weaponry, and absolutely no elves, Auto Assault is likely the one. The game delivers on its promise of massive combat action in a twisted shadow of the world we know, albeit for a monthly $15 subscription fee and some steep tech demands. Assuming you can handle both, you'll enjoy committing vehicular manslaughter all over the scorched earth.
Andrew Brandt · Dec 21, 2006 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Is it fun? Yes. Is it graphically pleasing? Yes. If Auto Assault suffers from any problems they would be a repetitive influence in missions, and a lack of players, giving the sparse world an even sparser feel. Of course, that means you don’t have to fight for quest mobs. But this is a game that fits a different space in the MMO genre and the folks at NetDevil have proven that they are not above making changes. Whether or not AA will survive long enough to realize its potential remains to be seen. For right now, though, it is a pleasant break from cookie-cutter MMOs.
jkdmedia · May 04, 2006 Reviewed on PCRead full review - There are just too many little flaws to be able to give a wholehearted recommendation. Yes, the combat is fast, thrilling, spectacular even; the environments are large and you're free to roam them at will; but it's graphically underwhelming and lacks atmosphere thanks to a minimalist musical score and weak sounds effects. It may be treading different ground from traditional MMORPGs, but it doesn't have the technical panache of WoW or Guild Wars, nor the social focus.
Iain McCafferty · May 02, 2006 Reviewed on PCRead full review - If Auto Assault's mission content had a little more substance, and if its geography had more familiarity, then its conventional MMO level grind template would probably be only a small annoyance. But there's little to mitigate its lower ambitions, and the player ends up with a game that doesn't feel like it's crossed the finish line yet. With its lack of distinctiveness, it becomes the post-apocalypse MMO for everyone... and no one in particular.
Tom McNamara · May 01, 2006 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Auto Assault certainly has a lot of potential. But in its current form, that potential is squandered with repetitive quests, technical glitches, and a complete lack of challenge from most of the environment. It still has the same addictive nature that most good MMOs have, though, so if you're an MMO player looking for something new that you'll only really need to play during the first free month before moving on to something else, Auto Assault will scratch your itch.
Jeff Gerstmann · Apr 27, 2006 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Auto Assault combines the vehicular glee of Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors with the ultraviolence of Rambo or Carmeggedon. What lets it down is ugliness, its hunger for power (and the corresponding technical issues), and the knowledge that this would be much better and more coherent as a purely single-player game.
