- Atari 50 – The Wider World of Atari from developer Digital Eclipse adds to the overall Atari 50 historical package but doesn’t bring the strongest line-up of history or games seen in the original release.
Nathaniel Stevens · Oct 06, 2024 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - As a game compilation, it still feels lacking in the latter half of the company's game history, as some of the more interesting titles from the 7800 era onward aren't here; one can argue that the company's output at the time doesn't make the job any easier, though.
Cody Medellin · Dec 14, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration serves to teach – and remind – us of a time in gaming that was very different to the one we live in now. One that was perhaps a little more exciting and imaginative. If you go in with an open and inquisitive mind there’s almost endless entertainment to be found here. Trust us.
Simon Reed · Dec 11, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - With Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration, Digital Eclipse has set a new bar for future historical compilations in video games. It's a digital traveling museum exhibit, as the game bursts at the seams with nostalgia thanks to more than 100 playable games and hundreds of relics from the developer's vault.
Jason Fanelli · Dec 06, 2022 Reviewed on Switch - Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration is both a game collection and an interactive documentary, and excels in each aspect. There may be a few hits missing, but the 90 games available are perfectly emulated and serve as an incredible time capsule of a bygone era. The unexpected star of the show is the interactive documentary, filled to the brim with interviews, documents, pictures, and interesting stories all told by pioneers of the era.
Richard Allen · Dec 06, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration is a different type of game not seen in a long time as it’s partly educational and partly feels like you are watching a documentary. There are a lot of classics in this package and also a lot of meh games which you will gloss over.
Graham Cameron · Nov 27, 2022 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration offers a novel way to delve into the past that’s filled with fun and surprises, much like walking into the Atari section at Sears in 1982 must have felt like – I wouldn’t know, I missed out! That’s why it’s such a blast to have this window into the past.
Samuel Claiborn · Nov 17, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - As an archival effort, Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration is, indeed, a joyous effort. In fact, it's arguable that this is the best that Atari has put out in recent years. The historical timeline alone is a pristine and impressive feature, as only developer Digital Eclipse can make it.
Daavpuke · Nov 17, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - While ultimately held back from being the ultimate Atari package, it could have been by holes in the game lineup, Atari 50 is still a fantastic experience. It’s just one that all but the most die-hard Atari faithful will enjoy for a few afternoons before moving on.
Andrew Thornton · Nov 16, 2022 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - The Atari 50 Anniversary Collection is more than just a collection of games. It is a time capsule that traces not only the rise of Atari as a company but as a living entity. By showing us the people and the times these games came into being, it brings them to life in a way you never could have experienced before.
