- On the Switch, Assault Android Cactus+ is an obvious winner. Quick action, simple stages, and high-score chasing mean it’s perfect for handheld play. Pop the Switch in the dock for some local multiplay action and everything’s gravy. A twin-stick shooter this polished is proving to be a rare breed, especially since Nex Machina developer Housemarque has strayed from the genre.
David Morgan · Mar 08, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Assault Android Cactus+ is the ultimate version of an excellent game, and a perfect marriage between console and content. It's exciting and intense without ever being impenetrable, and the new Campaign+ feature is a great reason to dive back into the game even if you've already completed it elsewhere.
James O'Connor · Mar 07, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - At the end of the day the most important aspect of any game is fun. Assault Android Cactus (awesome name by the way) is the epitome of that. Every level is a blast, the mechanics are solid, and playing with friends is pure frenetic fun.

If you’re a fan of these types of games you will have a ball, if you’re not then you may find a controller embedded in your T.V. set quicker than you think. Definitely up there with the ‘High Scorers’ list of games and will make you work for it. Assault Android Cactus is the first game of indie start-up team Witch Beam, a three person team based in Brisbane, Australia and its great to see games of this calibre coming from the island ‘Down Under’ and hope for plenty more to come.
Jamie Baldock · Nov 11, 2017 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Challenging, fast-paced and deeper than you'd expect, there's a reason why Assault Android Cactus has such a strong following.
Richard Seagrave · Nov 10, 2017 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Everything about Assault Android Cactus feels perfect. From the controls and gameplay to sound and design. All lovingly crafted by Witchbeam, a development team of just three guys. It may have taken a while to get to the PS4, but I can now see why. Slick menu design, challenging gameplay and genuinely funny characters all add up to a create one of the best games I’ve played in a while.
John Whitehouse · Mar 17, 2016 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Adding up all the features in this arcadey game gives it a pretty high value. There’s replayability in the different modes like Daily Drive, Infinity Drive, and Boss Rush for those that like to buckle down and test their skills to get top scores on leaderboards. There’s the campaign, which has an interesting story with different dialogue per character. There’s extra stuff to buy with credits (earned by your scores per level) like game altering fun features, or concept art and codex entries to further learn about the characters and enemies.
Dyani Wood · Mar 08, 2016 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - The story mode will only take you a few hours to complete (or less), but Cactus shines when playing with friends -- plus, there's additional "Infinity Drive" (survival) and "Daily Drive" modes to conquer. Assault Android Cactus kind of snuck up on me, and is easily one of my favorite shooters of the year. I'm really interested in seeing what developer Witch Beam comes up with next.
Chris Carter · Oct 28, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Difficulty aside, though, it's hard to find much to criticize about Assault Android Cactus. The aesthetic is goofy fun, the mechanics are polished and vibrant, the bosses have different dialog options depending on the chosen character, and each of the characters have clear personalities and voice work. Even during the campaign, the game feels like a favorite arcade. The stages are mostly short, punchy from beginning to end, and the six hour running time never overstays its welcome.
Taylor Hidalgo · Oct 04, 2015 Reviewed onRead full review - Assault Android Cactus is an energising shooter experience. Each level, character and enemy brings something fresh to the game, and the end result is chaotic, polished, packed with variety and effortlessly charming. I had a huge amount of fun just trying to top my own high scores and experimenting with the different protagonists, let alone making an impact on the global leaderboards, so it really does feel like there's something for everyone.
