  • Anthem is a great game: it looks fantastic, the sounds are epic, the gameplay is absolutely awesome, and the story and characters are intriguing. Anthem seems to be getting a lot of negative reviews, which to us seems undeserved. It’s a lot of fun to be able to fly around freely in the beautifully designed world of Anthem, and the interaction with your character and the NPCs is a lot of fun. If you’re looking for a good shooter RPG to play with friends, then Anthem is the game for you!

  • Anthem is a game that I wanted to like more than I did, given its fantastic concept and great core gameplay. Anthem should have been a winner, but it’s turning out to be just another live service with nothing to stand out from the competition.

This has left such a sour taste in my mouth because when Anthem is working well, it can be a real fun time; flying around, getting into intense battles against humans and beasts. But it has so spectacularly failed in all other areas that I simply cannot recommend this game. And with The Division 2, a game that has experience in the Live Service sector only weeks away from launching, I feel like this Anthem will just fall on deaf ears.

  • Anthem is a game based on a fantastic idea. Flying around in futuristic mech-suits with friends should have been a slam dunk after six years of development, and Anthem might yet become that game someday. Unfortunately, that’s not what it is right now. Despite nailing the feeling of flying around in its Javelin suits and crafting a beautiful world, there’s nothing in Anthem to hold a player’s interest.

  • I want the game to be more optimized and run better. I also know I’m not alone in wanting all of these things. But like I mentioned before, this all depends on EA giving Bioware the time and resources to do so, and Bioware hopefully remaining dedicated to the game.

  • It is frustrating to rate Anthem. The game looks great, plays even better and has an intriguing setting to boot. However, the fragmented world design, overabundance of loading screens and severe lack of content considerably drag down the experience, at least for the time being. Still, this is a live service game after all and the folks at BioWare have the chance to right this ship by adding enough content in the upcoming months, though it won't be easy.

  • If you play casually, spending a limited amount of time with the game each week, you will probably enjoy what it currently has to offer, and there will be more added over time. However, if you want to dive deeper, it would be better to wait a month or two for content updates, and then jump into the game for a much better experience.

  • Anthem desperately needed a bit more time in the oven and the resulting product is one that I’m incredibly lukewarm on — which is almost worse than if I had outright hated it. I don’t understand many of the design decisions in Anthem to the point that I wonder how so many of the game’s aspects ever got greenlit in the first place.

  • Anthem always left me wanting. There is solid combat, cool wildlife, some awe inspiring visuals, and superb flight, but I was always aware that I desired more than what was here. Nothing in this game felt alive; not the story, the world, the characters, or even my interactions with other players.

  • Anthem has potential. In its present state, it’s a bit of a mess: underdeveloped, repetitive, and confused about what it wants to be. BioWare’s sci-fi shooter still has its moments, but they’re clouded by poor design choices and technical hiccups. Being a games-as-a-service product, there’s every chance things will be polished – and I really hope they are. For now, though, Anthem feels like a bit of a wasted opportunity.
