- It's a shame that Anno 2205 takes the game so far into the future and does so little of substance with that premise. Not much has changed from Anno 2070, and what has is almost always worse. Anno 2205 still has a sturdy core of satisfying city planning and construction, but so much has been cut out as to make the game barely worth playing at all.
Daniel Starkey · Nov 23, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - It feels like Ubisoft basically tried to dumb down an amazing series to gain more popularity, and I’m not so sure expansion packs can fix this. On top of that, the price is a little much. $70CAD is expensive, and I’d argue that going to $50 would make this a much more reasonable purchase. Cities: Skylines or even SimCity are both better city builders, and the only real reason to purchase Anno 2205 is if you absolutely need that futuristic feel.
Nicholas Plouffe · Nov 18, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Anno 2205 is a fun and fulfilling game, it's excellent to watch your colonies grow, but after your first one or two playthroughs it's going to become a little too much of doing the same thing. It's in dire need for extra maps and areas with a little more competition thrown in from either the AI or multiplayer competition.
Chris Wray · Nov 12, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - This is the most streamlined, straightforward Anno yet. It’s pacier and much more forgiving than any other city builder that springs to mind, which makes it an excellent introduction to the genre. The balancing act lacks depth, however, and coupled with the lacklustre RTS component, it’s hard to see what a Cities: Skylines veteran would get out of Anno 2205’s gentle coaching.
Angus Morrison · Nov 10, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - If you want a light, casual, visually beautiful experience or have never played a game like this before and want to start out with the simplest possible expression of what a city sim can be, however, it’s worth checking out. Anno 2205 is functional and fun, but with the singular exception of its visuals, it either had so little ambition at the outset or was so scaled back in development that it’s regrettably a missed opportunity.
Sean Hannley · Nov 09, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Anno 2205 is an engaging and strategic city builder with unique challenges in each of its attractive biomes. But ultimately, it manifests as a never-ending treadmill of trying to supply the picky, luxury-loving consumers of the 23rd century with more techno-garbage. The combat missions and side quests aren’t that in-depth or entertaining, and the story is half-baked and full of stock characters.
T.J · Nov 04, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Anno 2205 is a satisfying city builder for those who may think that Cities: Skylines can be a bit complex. It looks great, building your cities is a breeze, and managing resources is easy. Unfortunately, once you've finished the campaign, there's not much left but more optimization and expansion. No mods or DLC make this a rather finite game.
Mike Williams · Nov 03, 2015 Reviewed on PC - It feels like the developers simply slapped on some pretty graphics in the hopes of fooling people, marked the price up to off-set the lack of an online shop, then kicked it out the door to sucker people into paying far more than they would have otherwise for such a boring and underwhelming title.
Ian Soltes · Oct 03, 2016 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Playing Anno 2205 gives one the feeling that something is missing, like a half-written novel or a song containing only the chorus. The possibilities of the setting are barely scratched upon, while the city-building, as competent as it is on the surface, leaves a lot to be desired for challenge.
Alex Hamilton · Dec 31, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - It’s a fairly robust system, but one of the biggest problems that we encountered is that we never really felt stressed while playing. This complaint isn’t tied to any sort of masochism on our part, more that strategy games should be built on a foundation of sometimes dizzying micromanagement and the need to act quickly to avoid disaster.
