  • From a gameplay perspective, Amnesia Memories and Amnesia Later x Crowd have translated well to the new platform, with this being the first time Later x Crowd is available to fans outside Japan. Unfortunately, as a newcomer to the series, an incredible story about a girl’s journey to recovering her memories and discovering the truth is grossly overshadowed by the love interest side of the story where she is often subjected to very poor and sometimes disturbing treatment.

  • An unpolished translation, the absence of common visual novel QoL features, and most importantly, an eye-watering price tag make it difficult to justify picking these games up.

  • Amnesia: Memories is a must-play otome title even if it shows its age.

  • Amnesia: Memories is just a tad cold, a bit too mean, and left me feeling restless and unresolved. It hits the notes, but it hits them in the wrong key. A classic, certainly, and I’m glad Switch owners have the option to play it.

  • The environments in Amnesia are largely urban, but there’s a good variety of backgrounds and environments apart from the mandatory locations (protagonist’s house, the cafe) and the characters are well designed.

  • Amnesia: Memories is a decent otome, with plenty of its usual heart-throbbing twists and turns, but unfortunately, its user experience ages like a rotten apple on the Switch. I can’t count how often I became frustrated rather than fascinated by the love interests.

  • If there’s one thing that Amnesia: Memories can be commended for over all else, it’s the fact that a lot of work seems to have been put towards really pushing the theme of “remembering.” Almost everything that the novel showcases exhibits an almost nostalgic vibe; artstyle, sound design, and the overarching story come together to form a rather cohesive VN. The only real complaint that can be leveled against it as a product would have to be the abundance of typos and misspellings throughout Amnesia: Memories‘s many slides of text.

  • If not, this is a pretty tame and unsubstantial entry in the visual novel genre. It never explores its cast beyond their roles in the predictable story, and the choices you make feel arbitrary in what they actually accomplish. In the end, the game is sort of like the characters that inhabit it: pretty and dumb.

  • It's a shame, because Amnesia: Memories has an interesting tale to tell. But without an English language guide, early players are going to quickly become frustrated, especially since the Japanese guide sometimes fails to show what the right choice is. Once a brave player puts up a comprehensive ending guide, though, it's worth working through this nice-looking visual novel.
