Alienation is a game that dodged my radar, mostly in part to how many other games are vying for my time lately, but I cannot stress it enough, don’t sleep on this game. The addictive loot-gathering nature is extremely satisfying, and the spot-on controls and cooperative play really make this a game easy to recommend to a gaming group of friends. For those looking for that supplement to Diablo, Alienation should be right up your alley.

  • If you know and love Housmarque games, Alienation is arguably one of their best; it feels great, sounds great and looks great, and that makes the twenty dollar price point extremely reasonable. In a world of game that take themselves too seriously, Alienation is simply fun, and it’s a game that I can see myself coming back to when I need just that.

  • Alienation is a refined and intense shooter that looks and sounds great, and offers fantastically chaotic and violent action. While the game sometimes feels a little too eager to kill players and lacks local play, with a full troop online, it’s easily one of the best all-out action multiplayer games in recent memory.

  • Alienation is a game worth checking out if you’re a fan of Housemarque’s brand of shooter action, and especially if you have a group of friends who want to run through the game together. Don’t expect it to last forever, though, as after beating the campaign in five or six hours you may find yourself drawn towards deeper experiences rather than playing it again.

  • Play with a well-balanced cooperative team, stay in parity with your levels, and conserve ammo. Do so, and Alienation offers one of the best twin-stick experiences on the market. Add in a deep progression system and lots of ways to enjoy replaying, and it’s only balance issues that hold me back from the same fervent recommendation I apply to most Housemarque releases.

  • Alienation isn’t a terrible game by any stretch, but it’s not great either. It’s monotonous and lifeless, but can entertain in short bursts and with friends. Housemarque has done better in the past, and they should have done better here.

  • With beautiful graphics, simple and concise controls, and a decent array of weapons to choose from, Alienation only really falters from a tired plot and lack of character customization. Even when the screen flashes to warn me of an incoming horde, I never felt less than badass when playing this game and I easily found myself carried away into the next mission, compelled to learn more about what the world governments have hidden from me.

  • I can’t see this game being anywhere near memorable in the long run. It’s okay, but it just doesn’t do anything anywhere near special enough to make it little more than an aping of games and sci-fi media that have come before.

  • Alienation's plot and gameplay might lack originality, but that's soon forgotten as you get your teeth into its slick, addictive, over-the-top action. Along with gorgeous environments and absolutely spectacular pyrotechnics, the game features surprising depth thanks to its upgradable characters and loot system. It all adds up to a really enjoyable multiplayer shooter that's highly recommended.

  • Still, Alienation is one of the best-feeling twin-stick shooters I've played, so I can't be too bummed. It wasn't long before I had that realization, and now that I'm 20 hours and several character save files in, I'm even more convinced. Housemarque could stand to flesh out the endgame content and also add support for local co-op, but even if it doesn't, I love what's here.

    About the game

Join forces with up to 4 player co-op action, drop into your friends’ games for instant action and keep the aliens grounded. Global eradication of the unwanted visitors is the goal and huge guns are the key. Rip apart and research the tech salvaged from puddles of slime, to turn it back against the enemy from outer space. There is no better time than now to stand up and fight.
