- This game gives you gobs of glorious combat, in a ton of different varieties. Well, sort of. It’s all ‘farm, form up, fight,’ but with separate rulesets and restrictions. Again, it comes down to your appetite for this sort of combat. For me, I was full up relatively fast. I’ll probably dabble a couple more times in the new modes, but that’s it. Maybe I’ll even get some multiplayer in!
James Paley · Oct 26, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - It’s far from a perfect RTS but there is a lot of fun and enjoyment still to be had as we wait for the eventual release of Age of Empires IV. Whether you skipped Age of Empires III during its original release or are interested in dipping back in, I think the Definitive Edition does enough to warrant a look, if for nothing else just to enjoy some good old-school RTS fun.
Joel S · Oct 22, 2020 Reviewed on PC - Age of Empires 3 is still flawed, but Forgotten Empires and Tantalus Media have delivered an excellent remaster that improves the game in almost every way.
Will Borger · Oct 17, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - If you're an existing Age of Empires 3 fan, then this is the best way to play it going forward, even if the extent of the improvements reflects its status as the least loved entry in the series. Although Age of Empires 3 requires less patience than Age of Empires 2, it's also less rewarding over the long-term, struggling to match the elegance of a game that's been updated and refined for 21 years.
Robert Zak · Oct 16, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Brilliant pure yellow and white text on a faux-wood brown background is the biggest and most consistent offender. It's eye strain-inducing. However, accessibility features are here to save the day: You can simply remap all identifying player and text colors to any other color. I'm glad someone was paying attention to StarCraft 2's way of doing things.
Jonathan Bolding · Oct 15, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The Definitive Edition has done a great job of bringing the title into the modern age with beautiful visuals and a new UI – but that core gameplay remains, and it falls flat especially compared to the standard set by last year’s Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition. Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition‘s intriguing campaigns are worth a look, but if you value adaptive and fluid multiplayer gameplay, stick with Age of Empires II.
Robert Gammon · Oct 15, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - All in all, Age Of Empires 3: Definitive Edition is still a solid game. Its single-player content will last you over a dozen hours, and its multiplayer matches will last you several dozen more. While there is no longer that drive to farm XP for updates your Home City, the game itself is good enough that you'll be coming back for rematches time after time.
Patrick Sklar · Oct 15, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition is an undeniable and great improvement on the original. Featuring a huge amount of content, including some brand-new game modes, as well as a revamped and improved portion of the original campaign, there's a lot on offer.
Chris Wray · Oct 14, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - An amazing soundtrack, beautiful landscapes, great quality of life improvements and a more modern UI have enhanced Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition enough to justify its existence. Even though it wasn’t really needed graphics wise.
Pieter Jasper · Oct 14, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition is the remaster the game deserves. The overhaul of aesthetics in gameplay make it look better than it ever has. This Definitive Edition comes supersized with all the previous game’s content plus new missions, campaigns and factions. The new additions are fully developed and integrate masterfully with the base game.
