  • It's just a primitive action RPG that, in many ways, seems outmoded in this day and age. While it may hold some appeal for nostalgic Game Boy fans, I wish Square Enix had gone to the trouble of remaking the game in a less perfunctory way. As it stands, this one's difficult to recommend to all but the most ardent RPG enthusiasts.

  • In general, Adventures of Mana was a simple, charming remake of the game that kicked off the Mana series. Despite lacking in some areas, it’s still a fun game to play, especially in spurts. You should get around 15-20 hours of solid gameplay and a number of trophies to chase after. After experiencing this Mana “origins” remake, I am curious to check out other games in the series, and to see if Square Enix is looking to revive the series on home consoles as well.

  • It’s a new version of a classic game and designed around a platform that only has a touchscreen for an input. The solutions to bring the game there were smart. The issue with this Vita version as that the publisher just decided to bring that same exact version over without tailoring it to fit the platform. Many can look past this and enjoy a better looking, but faithful recreation of Final Fantasy Adventures, but we as gamers should expect better.

  • It’s far from perfect, but once you can overlook the few design flaws that Adventures of Mana exhibits, there’s an enjoyable classic adventure to be had. Some of its simplistic nuances, such as one-button attacks and lack of complexity in levelling up, may alienate fans of more advanced RPGs, but it’s a great introduction to the genre for younger players or those not as accustomed to more technical systems.

  • Adventures of Mana proves to be a fun trip down memory lane, however archaic design choices leave you wondering what could have been rather than what you have. It acts as an interesting history lesson as to where the roots of the Mana series began, but unfortunately it amounts to little more than that.

  • Visually, Adventures of Mana proves to be a colourful if uninspired fantasy jaunt. The Vita's screen does help the 3D models pop on occasion, but by and large, its looks are serviceable at best. In contrast, its reworked musical score is surprisingly good, featuring some catchy little tunes – although the repetitive dungeon theme can certainly grate over time.

  • Lovely to look at and lovelier to listen to, but it’s still the same Final Fantasy Adventure inside, for all the good and bad that entails.

  • There were many creative and well-thought out decisions that seemed to have gone into this title, and it was a pleasure to play through. If you like adventures, classic-style RPG’s, and magic, this will be worth your time.

  • Despite its age, Adventures of Mana is a high-quality action-oriented rpg. It definitely isn't for everyone, but you can get a lot out of it, so long as you're on board with the idea of playing a 25 year old game that has had a significant facelift.

  • It's a great game, and I'm happy a new generation has a chance to experience it as it was originally designed.

    About the game

Enshrined atop Mt. Illusia, high above the lofty clouds, stands the Tree of Mana. Drawing its life energy from the boundless celestial aether, the sentinel grows in silence. Legend holds that he who lays his hands upon its trunk will be granted power eternal?a power the Dark Lord of Glaive now seeks to further fuel his bloody quest for domination. Our unlikely hero is one of countless gladiators indentured to the Duchy of Glaive. Each day, he and his ill-fated companions are dragged from their cells and bade to fight exotic beasts for the amusement of the Dark Lord. If victorious, they are thrown back into the dungeons with just enough bread to tide them over until their next match. But a body can only take so much, and it is never long before the weary captives succumb to their cruel fates.
