- Technical issues aside, Absolver’s deep and innovative combat system, together with its seamlessly integrated social elements, easily stand as the game’s greatest achievements. Unfortunately, the game’s gorgeously ruined world is merely superficial beauty, being that outside of necessary acquisition, there’s little else to enjoy. This lack of overall depth is surely going to have a negative impact on its player count before too long.
Mark Sherwood · Jan 12, 2019 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Imagine all the classic martial arts films from the 70s, 80s and 90s, where Jackie Chan and Jet Lee starred. Drunken Master, Shaolin Temple, and so on. Imagine playing a game like that. Imagine a character teaching the player a technique he could actively master and then save his village and then the province from the evil big boss… it would be awesome. I would grab that and every one thereafter.
Stuart Thomas · Sep 30, 2017 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Appearances can be deceiving when it comes to martial arts. With the right knowledge, the unassuming or physically unimposing can dismantle opponents completely. Absolver, on its surface, is a multiplayer brawler with progression elements. At its center, it is a hardcore RPG that will reward players that invest in it heavily and it has more than enough value at its lower price.
Charles Singletary Jr · Sep 22, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Absolver is not for everyone. If you’re expecting a more traditional single-player RPG experience, this probably isn’t what you’re looking for. Much like the path of aspiring martial artists, Absolver is a trip through mastering one’s self. Expand your moveset and learn a playstyle that fits you. There’s not a lot of content and I feel that it launched prematurely. Sloclap still has a lot of plans to add more modes and features in the next few months. The lasting legacy of Absolver will undoubtedly be its amazing combat system.
Josh Torres · Sep 19, 2017 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Absolver is exactly what it sets out to be. If they added any more concepts to it, it might’ve been too much. But they don’t overcomplicate it. It’s a fighting game, pure and simple, it does something almost entirely new, and it does so well.
Derek McCurry · Sep 06, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - The combat is beautifully choreographed and well thought out. It's really fulfilling, but the game does little to help you figure out how to perfect certain moves.
Steve Knauer · Sep 05, 2017 Reviewed onRead full review - Absolver can be rewarding for those that dedicate the appropriate amount of time and attention it requires, but its complexities can be hard to break into. Even when Absolver is mastered, the resulting expertise seems to have little impact on the competitive side of the experience.
Nick Plessas · Sep 05, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - No multiplayer game can last the distance without regular content updates, and that’s what Sloclap have promised to deliver. As it stands, Absolver is a rough diamond with a strong core that will likely maintain a playerbase, but new content and performance updates will probably have to come soon if they want everybody to stay Kung Fu fighting.
Jimmy Donnellan · Sep 04, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - While Absolver is up and down in a lot of places, the game just doesn’t come together well. There’s something about the underlying design that makes it feel disjointed. Most of this comes from the quasi-open world aspect, but the ridiculous level of grinding involved and the disconnected PvP mode makes Absolver feel like a game that’s at war with itself.
Ahmed Mohamed · Sep 04, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - The art style is a big stand out for me. The smooth textures mixed with the almost muted color scheme really give off an almost claymation feel that looks great and really kick up the atmosphere a good amount.
